MARRIAGE

Congratulations on your engagement!

“Marriage is a symbol of life, real life: it is not “fiction”! It is the Sacrament of the love of Christ and the Church, a love which finds its proof and guarantee in the Cross. My desire for you is that you have a good journey, a fruitful one, growing in love. I wish you happiness. There will be crosses! But the Lord is always there to help us move forward. May the Lord bless you!”

The Process

The Diocese of San Diego requires a nine-month preparation period. It is designed to give you time to seriously reflect on married life, to prepare the necessary documents and work though the marriage preparation program.

  • First you must have a physical copy of the following documents:

    1. Birth Certificate

    2. Baptism Certificate

    3. First Communion Certificate

    4. Confirmation Certificate

    5. Valid Photo I.D

    6. If already civilly married, your civil marriage license

    7. If you have been previously married, bring the annulment documents and marriage certificate from the first marriage

  • If you are in the process of receiving your Sacraments, then we ask for a Letter from the Parish where you are preparing stating the program you are in and when you will receive your Sacraments.

  • Once you both have your physical copies, you can call to make an appointment with one of our Priest. We do ask for you to both be present for the interview and bring ALL your documents.

  • In order to be able to reserve your Wedding date, you must meet with a Priest and have met all the requirements set by the Priest.

Keep in mind you may have to take classes, and a retreat before setting a date.

  • At least one member of the couple must be a practicing Catholic in order to begin the process.

If they are of another religion, let the secretary know for the next steps.
